Yahoo Brings Its Native Ads to Redesigned Sites

Hints at more immersive advertising on the horizon

Yahoo Music

Yahoo is bringing its Stream Ads native ad unit to a number of new properties, starting today.

The company announced that Stream Ads will now appear on the following redesigned sites: Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Movies, Yahoo Music, Yahoo TV, Yahoo omg! and Yahoo Games. Yahoo also said it is adding Stream Ads to its desktop email service and its Android email app.

"This is an exciting step forward as we continue to launch more personalized, immersive advertising opportunities that are consistent across Yahoo as well as across desktop, tablet and mobile," Yahoo said in a blog post today. "The billboard ad format, which offers fun and entertaining interactions like watching movie trailers or purchasing tickets within the ad, will also be available across the redesigned sites."

Yahoo introduced the new ad unit for its homepages in April, tied to the Digital Content NewFronts. At the time, Mike Kerns, vp of products at Yahoo, pointed to the growing interest in native opportunities and called Stream Ads "the first meaningful native advertising products we're going to be introducing at scale."

In its blog post, Yahoo hinted that even more immersive ad opportunities are coming: "At Yahoo, we believe that advertising can and should be as entertaining as the surrounding media content itself. Stay tuned for more in the coming months as we continue to focus on advertising formats that complement our products and content, all while enhancing the user experience."
