Wi-Fi Usage on the RiseFebruary 25, 2010 Thanks to more places offering Wi-Fi for free, usage grew 8.2 percent in the fourth quarter compared to Q3, according to JiWire, a company that operates a Wi-Fi ad network. Usage was strongest in airports, up 26 percent, followed by cafes, up 22.9 percent. The number of Wi-Fi spots in the U.S. grew to 69,786 in Q4, up 2.9 percent over the previous quarter.
